St Bakhita School in Narus, SSudan. I gave your painting to the St B Secondary
School where Mercy Beyond Borders now has 23 young women on full scholarship.
But before I could present it to the Principal, I unpacked it and temporarily
set it down on the doorstep of my tukul (round hut). A Dinka woman named Martha
walked by, saw it there, and immediately bowed to it and began to pray aloud in
her language with the utmost reverence. I snapped her photo (attached here),
but it doesn't capture the beauty and grace of the moment!

September 17-October 19 - Holiness and the Feminine Spirit-the Art of Janet McKenzie.
This will be the first time the original painting, Jesus of the People, will be on view in
Pittsburgh. My recent commission (done for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Carnegie, PA)
-Mother Elizabeth Ann Seton-Woman of God (36 x 48, o/c) will be dedicated at the
opening on Sept 17, 7pm. More info is on the link:

I will at Richfield United Methodist Church, 5835 Lyndale Ave. South, Minneapolis,
Sept 22, 6pm for Holiness and the Feminine Spirit-Invitation to Love, an exhibit of
reproductions of my paintings with a brief artist's talk at 6pm, followed by a
beautiful performance (inspired by my work I am told) at 7:30pm, with singers Sara Thomsen,
Mary Lou Williams, Sarah Greer, storyteller and dancer Regina LaRoche and spoken word
artist (who is also the creator and visionary of this performance) Marilyn Mayry of Duluth. This performance
honors the courage and love women bring to life and as well, the indomitable and
ultimately universal human spirit, which includes everyone. www.richfieldumc.org

I would love to meet you, in Pittsburgh on Sept 17th or in Minneapolis on Sept 22nd !
It features 28 paintings with reflections written by 28 writers and theologians, all women, and they are an incredible group, the caliber is so high. I am humbled each agreed to join forces with my art. For an artist the reproduction of one's art is everything..it is just crucial to have this work, which means so much, reproduced correctly, and the publisher stepped up and did it right. Letting go of our group fear that the boat from Milan would sink, taking down all 6000 copies (this actually happened once), it arrived in NJ safely last week. Over the years many people have contacted me asking if a book on my art existed, and one did not, until now. Since receiving an advance copy I find myself reading it like anyone else. The reflections are so interesting, yes it is about my art but each writer was given total freedom and they head in whatever direction their hearts take them. Their words are strong and tough, loving and tender and the connection comes back to holiness, the inherent holiness found in the feminine spirit. I admit I am not a good blogger, but will try to post info on upcoming book signings..info on ordering can be found at www.janetmckenzie.comUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0
